Objectives of Society Of Clan Gunn of N.A.
At the meeting in 1994, and described in the Gunn Salute, 1994/95, - the Clan Gunn Officers and some members decided that:
[ As stated "the objectives" in a meeting of all officers of Clan Gunn, and some members in 1994 the objectives were: ] 1) To get "someone" to write a history of Clan Gunn, and do it as soon as possible. It is thought that if they have a good history, the Lord Lyon might look favorably their choices of men, to try to get a Chief for Clan Gunn. (paraphrasing) 2) To make every effort to get a Chief for Clan Gunn. 3) To sell the History book - to perpetuate the history - and force the old history, (with ties to the Isle Of Man), out of existence.(paraprasing) 4 To sell the 'Newly Written' book as their 'bible', and force all 'old and accurate', Gunn histories out of existence and off the private web sites. Try to get (those histories) removed from other Gunn sites (with suggestion of ranking members of Clan Gunn that
'those' histories are outdated, AND TO PROMOTE Mark R. Gunn's book. Promote it and sell it, at every Clan Gathering possible. (paraphrasing). who? keeps all the proceeds now that Mr. M. R. Gunn has passed away?? They brag openly that they may be a small Clan, but they are one of the wealthiest. [***Most importantly, have they reported their earnings from the book to the IRS Department of Treasury??, or do they still declare "non-profit status"? ] Also who pays for the trips our officials take to Scotland and who pays to bring the acting Commander and sometimes his wife, here for gatherings? These are important questions all members should be asking.
They hunted a long time to find a Gunn, who they felt was appropriate to form up Clan Gunn in Scotland.....he is not a chief!!! These old values and histories were to be thrown out, and a new set instituted. In 2000-2001. This is where we broke with 'that group' of Clan Gunn, N.A. Also, we want everyone to have a voice, and state their opinions, not just the card holding members of the present Clan Gunn of N.A. That organization with their President, who packed the offices with good friends of the President elect, so that whatever they want to do, will not be questioned. C. Swan. Therefore, we are forming "our" new Historic Clan Gunn USA, and hope you will join, keeping (in tact), the answers of the Lord Lyon of Scotland, who serves at the behest of her Royal Magesty, Elizabeth. We ar more interested in keeping the history and records of the Lord Lyons in force, thus "supporting him", not throwing up histories and officers to try to persuade the Lord Lyon of his findings, and not to force the Lord Lyon, in any manor or matter, and to respect his rulings. We want to keep the legal blood ties in effect, and our historically authentic history, not a "new" history to promote "certain ideas" and "chiefly candidates" and the "sale of books." I have just been sent an article, written by L.Robinson of Clan Gunn mentioned above.
As usual the elderly Mr. Robinson has mixed up what I printed, and given it out of context. I will attempt here, where my readers are, to straighten out Mr. Robinson's, writings, if that is possible with his seemingly muddled thinking and writing "things".(notice I said "things")
Yes, I am inviting people to join our own Clan Gunn Historic Society, called Historic Clan Gunn USA.
He has called it anything but.
The site we are have formed is the Official site of Clan Gunn Historic Society, and it is official in that, this is the first site that presents pure, real, researched history and does pledge NOT TO use questionable methods to collect money.
We charge no membership fee.....at all, because what we deal in is 'facts not fantasy' and are completely different from the Society which they claim is theirs exclusively. I don't want to use their name, and am not using their name. I can form a Society of Clan Gunn, for several reasons: Now to get to something I believe is very, very important: I am from the Isle of Skye.
Shortly after I put up my web site, my first one, in 1995, Mr. Swan wrote me an email and ask me to take down my Gunn history. He said he had been "fighting windmills" trying to get this old history taken down from sites. I refused, but offered to put up their new version (that has little creedence and cannot be proven), below the Lord Lyon's version. I however, kept on site, history of Clan Gunn, that was written by Lord Lyons Thomas Innes of Learney and Lord Lyons R. Bain, my teacher and prior to that my mother's teacher. Both men were Lord Lyons in the 30-40's and 40-mid 50's. Both of high intelligence, and both a keen interest in the ancient clans. I have always felt they knew much more than Swan or Robinson and still do. I left my history up, and from that point on, was black-balled by this organization.
I tried to co-exist on the Gathering of the Clans Board, but was attacked by the fabulous four officers (I have mentioned, and their minnions), constantly for anything I wrote. I left that board after telling them what I thought of their tactics and them, and I decided to put my material up where it could not be touched.
Now, L. Robinson, has put up his "trash talk" on a open board, "The Boarshead", so I feel free to use his real name here.
He is not a nice person, despite his attempt, and he is suffering from an 'overblown head' due to the belief that he is important.
The best thing he could do for Clan Gunn, would be to take his buddie "office holders" and leave Clan Gunn.....but he won't. It would affect his sales from his booth 'Something....Blades". Another way of doing business....but he also disseminate his opinions in CD form, as real history. It is not.
Another attack - he says he read my site with spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes. I have a site of over 180 pages and there might be a few typos, but I will put my grammar up against his anytime, anyday. A stupid way to try to take away my creditability, and it will not work.
All those who really have Clan Gunn blood in their veins, and are willing to prove their heritage, or come close to proving it, will be welcomed to our organization.
There is also a Dugar or Dugard of ? , who runs the board where they attack me, is really owner of a small farm in Oregon, and a Mr. Fraser, self-styled Scot from Canada, who is again attacking my people and organization. Fraser is of Clan Frazer, when they will claim him, and is such such an egomanic that he writes all the articles on the Frazer board, letting few others have an opinion, unless it is his that of his wife, Marie.
I find that most people with the big ego, are not from Scotland, but wannabe's and Fraser is a "wannabe" of the highest level, Dugar is so unimportant, he spends his time watching search engines for material, and then acting as an authority. These people are peculiar and not at all likeable. There is also a few others who write to harrass: If they keep it up, this post will be an ongoing list of troublemakers who attack me and who feel the historic part of the clans is not important. They get-together at the games. hand out Clan Gunn history of their own imagination, to tell people what to believe and what to do. 1) I do not have the same objectives as theirs. Mine are Historic theirs is ???
2) We are not claiming to be connected to Clan Gunn of Scotland, who takes their marching orders from Clan Gunn Society of the North America. Scotland is a small country in land mass, compared to the USA, and the Highlands it is even smaller. The USA provides most of the membership, with Canada providing the second largest, followed by Australia, New Zealand and parts of Africa.
3) I printed the "objectives" from a copy of the Clan Gunn Salute which was the newsletter of Clan Gunn back in the time frame I illuminated.
4) The copy was sent to me by the 'now' president of the society, See C. Swan, who was at the time he sent it, still Editor of the Gunn Salute.
5) All it would take on the part of Clan Gunn would be to read their back copies until they found it.......is there problem, reading????
8) All I said about the officers is true, and Robinson only mentioned his office, which is membership and he sluffs it off - as not too important, but he is always in the forefront of all decisions.
7) As Swan once told me, "he is my best friend and my spokesman."
8) Minister Swan, does not like to get his hands dirty, so he gets Robinson to write and say, whatever he wants to get across,....for him.
9) That fact that Sharon Manesss, and her mother Jean Jesson, are officers in the "club" and his "amen chous", he never mentioned. They defend these men, I suppose the men can't defend themselves and they both have very argumentative and crude and uncouth, ways to get their point across.
I NEVER, EVER, claimed to be a historian of Clan Gunn, I write on Scottish Culture! Mr. Robinson has accused me several times of being a false historian. Let us hope Mr. Robinson, can read English, well enough, to understand this. I have been an author and writer for both USA and Scotland for over 40 years. I am a Historian of the Ancient Clans of Scotland, a title given me by a late Lord Lyon, R. Bain (he is deceased). My mother was a Historian of the Ancient Clans of Scotland before me, and caused my interest.
